Welcome an inbound Instagram DM with a useful next step
An incoming Instagram message deserves a clear answer, not a generic sales pitch. Learn how ReplyMagnet's DM trigger works, what it can and cannot claim, and how to test it before sending real visitors into the flow.

What the DM trigger does
ReplyMagnet can welcome an eligible incoming Instagram DM. In any mode it handles the first qualifying message from a person on the account; keyword or smart matching takes priority when a more specific campaign matches.
This is an incoming-message flow. A follow by itself does not trigger the welcome, and the product does not promise a message to every new follower. The event trail distinguishes a received, eligible, sent, delivered or expired request.
Choose the right trigger
Use any mode for one broad orientation message. Use a keyword or smart match when different requests need different answers, because the specific campaign is checked before the general welcome.
A broad welcome can point someone to the next action: ‘Thanks for messaging ReplyMagnet. Reply GUIDE for the comment-to-DM guide, or tell us which campaign you are testing.’ Keep the opening useful without pretending to know why the person wrote.
Write and test the first reply
A strong welcome acknowledges the message, names one next step and gives the person an easy way to continue. Test it from a second account before directing real visitors to it.
Create an Instagram campaign with the Direct messages trigger surface, choose the matching mode and write the welcome. Then test a first DM, a keyword DM, a repeat contact and an expired request. Confirm the response, event record and linked resource before launch.
Eligibility and timing limits
The welcome is a once-only claim for an eligible person on that account. Previous DM activity, a postback, a story or DM comment, or a still-pending delivery can make the person ineligible.
ReplyMagnet checks the message deadline immediately before sending, so a queued request can expire instead of being sent outside Instagram's allowed window. A failed or expired welcome is recorded and is not silently treated as a new welcome.
Keep the promise accurate
Describe this as an inbound DM welcome, not a new-follower auto-DM. Do not claim a reply when there is no live DM campaign or when the messaging window has closed.
Measure the actual event trail and keep the next step specific. When the flow is ready, create an Instagram campaign and test it with a second account.
Common questions
Does a new follower receive the welcome message?
No. The flow responds to an eligible incoming Instagram DM. A follow alone does not authorize this message.
Can a keyword DM override the general welcome?
Yes. Keyword and smart matching are checked before the general any-mode welcome.
Can the same person receive the welcome repeatedly?
No. The welcome claim is once-only for an eligible person on that account, subject to prior-contact and pending-delivery checks.
