Lead capture gates: follow, email, phone

Gates are optional steps you can add in front of a download. None of them are required to use ReplyMagnet. Here's exactly what each one does and how it's verified.

What gates are

Gates are optional steps a commenter completes before the download link opens: a follow ask, an email address, or a phone number. Each one is a per-campaign choice you make in the wizard. None of them is required to use ReplyMagnet.

A campaign with no gates active delivers instantly: the DM's link opens the file directly. Turning a gate on inserts a short capture page between the DM link and the download, and the file only opens once whatever the campaign asks for is filled in or confirmed. Review the gates step in the wizard before launching, so the campaign runs exactly the gates you intend.

Gates can be combined. A campaign can ask for an email and a phone number together on the same capture page, or run with no gates at all and deliver instantly. Whichever combination you choose is set once, in the wizard, per campaign; different campaigns on the same account can use different gates.

The follow gate

The follow gate is an optional per-campaign setting. When you turn it on, the DM asks the commenter to follow your account first, and on Instagram the follow is verified through Instagram's API before the download unlocks.

With the gate on, the DM sent to a non-follower includes a prompt to follow, plus a button to confirm once they have. Tapping confirm re-checks with Instagram directly: the answer comes from the platform, not from the commenter's own claim. Someone who already follows the account skips the extra step entirely and gets delivered straight away, since the check runs before the prompt.

Because it's a per-campaign toggle, you decide whether a given campaign uses it: a launch-week campaign might, an evergreen one might not. It sits alongside the email and phone gates, and can be combined with either.

The email gate

With the email gate on, the commenter enters an email address on the download page before the file opens. Captured emails appear in the Leads tab, and (on Pro and above) sync automatically to a connected email tool.

Turning the email gate on changes what the DM link points to: instead of the file, it opens a short capture page with a single email field and a download button. The address is validated before it's accepted, and once submitted, the file opens right away, in the same visit with no separate step.

Every captured email lands in Leads, on every plan. Automatic sync to Mailchimp or Kit, so a new email pushes into your list within seconds without any manual export, is a Pro-and-above feature; on Starter or Basic, the address is still there in Leads, just without the live push.

The phone gate

The phone gate adds an optional mobile-number field to the capture page, and works alone or together with the email gate. Phone capture is a Pro-and-above feature; numbers are validated on submission and appear alongside the lead in Leads and CSV export.

Turned on, the phone gate adds a number field to the same capture page the email gate uses, either on its own or right next to the email field, depending on which gates the campaign has active. A number that doesn't look like a valid phone number is rejected before the page moves on.

Because it's a Pro-and-above capability, the phone gate toggle is disabled in the wizard on Starter and Basic workspaces, with an upgrade prompt in its place. Once available, captured numbers show up wherever leads already show up: the Leads tab and CSV export.

What the commenter experiences

The commenter's link, from the DM, opens a capture page carrying the creator's own branding (or none at all, since page-branding removal is a Pro-and-above feature) if any gate is on, walks through whichever gate steps the campaign has active, then opens the download. With no gates on, the link opens the file directly.

From the commenter's side, the flow is short no matter how many gates are on: tap the link in the DM, land on a simple page (or skip straight to the file with no gates), fill in whatever it asks for, and get the download. There's no account to create and no app to install; everything happens on that one page.

The capture page itself carries the creator's name by default, with a small "Delivered by ReplyMagnet" mark at the bottom on Starter and Basic; Pro and above can remove that mark entirely for a fully white-labeled page.

Common questions

Do I have to turn any gate on?

No. Every gate is optional: whether each one runs is a choice you make per campaign in the wizard's gates step, so check it before you launch. A campaign with no gates active delivers the file directly from the DM link, no extra step at all.

Can the follow gate verify likes too?

No. Instagram's API only exposes whether someone follows an account, not who liked a given post, so only the follow check is API-verified. Nothing can verify a like the same way.

Can I use the email and phone gates together?

Yes. They're independent toggles and can both be on at once, showing both fields on the same capture page before the download unlocks.
